Mr. Christopher Michael "SPUD" Wright

Christopher Michael Wright, lovingly known to everyone as “SPUD,” of Southside, Alabama, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2025, at the age of 53. Chris was born on May 26, 1972, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Charlotte Griffin Wright; and Jeff and Jean Marie Wright. He attended Mitchell Elementary School and graduated from Emma Sansom High School in 1990, where he made many lifelong friends and was known for his hard-working nature, sense of humor, and easy going spirit. After high school, Chris began his career at Gulf State Steel. After the plant shutdown, he worked at Max Packaging until he later joined Osmose, where he served as a Foreman and Crew Chief Leader. His dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him. His Osmose family meant a great deal to him, and the company’s kindness and support to his loved ones after his passing will never be forgotten. Chris married the love of his life, Jennifer Wright, whom he met while working at Max Packaging. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. He was a proud and caring father to Nina Bone (Blake) and Joi Jacobs. He was not only a kind and cool “Pawpaw” but one of the greatest friends and companions to his grandsons Hunter Humphries and Brooks Bone, who were his pride and joy. Whether golfing, swimming, jumping off diving boards, fishing, camping, or catching and throwing any kind of a ball; Chris loved spending time outdoors with them—making memories they will cherish forever. Chris is also survived by his loving parents, Charlotte Griffin Wright, and Jeff and Jean Marie Wright; mother-in-law Chun Cha Kang; his brother Scott Wright (Ruth Wade Wright) (Matthew, Benjamin, Marianne, Joseph) ; Will Layton; stepbrother John Ashley; stepsister Nikole; sister-in-law Nancy Brant (Russ Brant)(Olivia and Hillary), brother-in-law Frank Ing (KC Ing) (Issac) Uncle David/Guy “Stump” Wright (Phyillis Wright); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins including Matthew, Benjamin, Marianne, Joseph, and Braden Wright, Will Layton, David and Steven Griffin, Jennifer Griffin Gipson, Alison Wright Monroe, and Cale Wright. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Ray Louis and Josephine Dull Wright, Norman and Ruby Griffin, and his cherished brother, Wesley Ray Wright, whose memory he held close to his heart. Chris had a big heart and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Ragan Kerr (Misty), who he affectionately called “a brother from another mother,” was among those who shared countless adventures with him—fishing, camping, hunting, and sharing football weekends together. He had a soft spot for animals, especially the cats he often rescued on his way to work. His kindness extended to every living thing. Chris will be remembered for his generosity, humor, loyalty, and ability to fix just about anything. He could do it all—and would do anything for anyone. His presence filled every room, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone who was blessed enough to know him. A Visitation will be held Saturday, November 1, from 11:00 - 1:00 at Southside Baptist Church. The Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 led by Pastor Gary Ashley. Burial service will follow at Williams Southside Memorial Park. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to Southside Baptist Fellowship Hall to gather, share a meal, share stories, and honor the life of a man who truly made the world a better place. Pallbearers: Steve Griffin, David Griffin, Hunter Humphries, Blake Bone, Dan Sitz, Craig Gipson, Eddie Thompson, and Chad Williams. Honorary Pallbearer: Ragan Kerr and Thomas Farley. A special thanks to the Rainbow City PD, Rainbow City Fire Department and Medics, Etowah County Sheriff’s Department for their immediate and professional action at the scene. A special thanks to St. James Catholic School for their support and prayers for the family during this time. Also, a special thanks to Osmose Utilities Services for their love and support, and for providing a catered reception for family following the service.
